Banner is a software application developed by Ellucian, a higher education solution provider, which maintains student, personnel, financial and business data. It consists of five integrated modules.

  • FINANCE
  • STUDENT  (Admissions, General Student, Registration)
  • FINANCIAL AID
  • HUMAN RESOURCES
  • GENERAL (Password Change, My Banner, Search)

Banner modules are highly integrated since they share a common database. For example, if a student is also an employee, the Registrar and Human Resources offices do not create a separate ID record for this employee/student, for each office’s use. The general information for each person/student (name, address, phone number) is in a shared table.

Banner has a variety of ways to search by name and automatically retrieve associated information. Banner also has sophisticated security measures to make sure that only authorized individuals have access to specific data.
